Sumudu Anopama Atapattu is a Teaching Professor and the Director of the Global Legal Studies Center at the University of Wisconsin Law School. She also serves as the Executive Director of the Human Rights Program at UW-Madison. Dr. Atapattu teaches in areas of International Environmental Law, Climate Change, and Human Rights. She is affiliated with multiple institutes at UW-Madison, including the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, the Global Health Institute, and the Center for South Asia. Notably, she has been a visiting professor at Doshisha University Law School in Japan and has taught training programs in International Law across various countries. A prolific writer, her publications include significant works on the intersection of human rights and environmental issues, which aim to address the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades, including scholarships for academic excellence from the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and has served as a visiting scholar at renowned law schools. Dr. Atapattu's research focuses on the relationship between human rights, environmental law, and climate change, particularly as it relates to small island states and climate migration.
