Benjamin Lu is an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of San Diego. He holds a PhD in Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley, a JD from Yale Law School, and a BA in Mathematics and Philosophy, graduating magna cum laude from Pomona College. His professional experience includes serving as a law clerk for Honorable Daniel P. Collins at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Pasadena, California. He has held research positions at Stanford Law School's RegLab, the American Bar Foundation, and Harvard Law School. His research focuses on the application of algorithms and statistical methods in legal decision-making. Professor Lu's scholarship has been published or is forthcoming in prestigious journals, including the Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics, the Journal of Machine Learning Research, and the Journal of Educational & Behavioral Statistics. His work has been featured in media outlets such as ABA Journal, Law360, and Reuters. He has been actively involved in academic leadership roles, including as lead editor of the Yale Journal on Regulation and as a fellow at the Solomon Center for Health Law and Policy.
