Miranda McGowan is a Professor at the School of Law at the University of San Diego. She graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991 and received her JD from Stanford University Law School in 1995, where she also served as an articles editor for the Stanford Law Review. Before joining USD in 2005, she practiced as an associate in complex litigation at the law firm Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk & Rabkin, and clerked for the Honorable John T. Noonan, Jr. at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Her areas of expertise include Constitutional Law, Employment Discrimination Law, and Jurisprudence. Currently, her research focuses on the interplay between group identity and constitutional protection against discrimination, with particular attention to the originalist interpretation of the 14th Amendment. McGowan has contributed significantly to legal scholarship, with notable publications addressing issues of equality and gender identity in the context of law.
