Biography

Renagh O’Leary is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School, where he teaches and writes in the areas of criminal law and criminal procedure. His scholarship has been featured in prominent law reviews, including the Iowa Law Review, UC Davis Law Review, North Carolina Law Review, and Wisconsin Law Review, with forthcoming articles including 'Compassionate Release and Decarceration in the States' (2022) and 'Supervising Sentencing' (2024). Prior to joining the faculty at UW Law School, O'Leary practiced as a trial attorney with the Bronx Defenders, a public defender’s office that emphasizes a holistic approach to representation. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he served as Comments Editor for the Yale Law Journal and was awarded the C. LaRue Munson Prize for his clinical work. O'Leary earned his B.A. in Political Science with highest distinction from the University of Michigan. He has been active in legal discussions, recently serving as a panelist on Wisconsin's sentence adjustment process at the Wisconsin Judicial Conference's Annual Meeting and presenting at the AALS Conference on Clinical Education.
