Dr. Carson Meredith

Professor

Biography

Carson Meredith is the Executive Director of the Georgia Tech Renewable Bioproducts Institute and a James Harris Faculty Fellow at the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. His research group focuses on surfaces, interfaces, and advanced materials, specifically emphasizing sustainable processing and circular manufacturing. His work involves developing biorenewable barrier materials from cellulose and chitin nanomaterials, often sourced from food waste. Meredith addresses contemporary recycling challenges and works on new circular processes to upcycle plastics and biomass, simultaneously enabling the creation of higher-strength, lighter-weight composites with low volatile organic compound coatings. Furthermore, he explores surfactant-free foams and their applications across energy, packaging, personal care, and food. His discovery of natural particle adhesion principles, particularly regarding pollen and cellulose, drives innovation in material engineering for food security and energy efficiency, significantly contributing to greenhouse gas reduction efforts.
