Biography

Ryan Poe-Gavlinski is a 2004 graduate of Quinnipiac University School of Law and currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin Law School. He directs the Economic Justice Institute (EJI) and the Restraining Order Survivor Advocacy Clinic (ROSA). Ryan has a diverse legal practice background, having worked as a staff attorney for Legal Aid in West Virginia, an Assistant Public Defender in Riverside County, California, and in the Department of Child Services for the state of Indiana. His work primarily focuses on poverty law, criminal defense for both minors and adults, family law, and civil legal matters, particularly assisting victims of intimate partner violence and child welfare law. He has been recognized for his contributions to legal advocacy, receiving the Innovator of the Year Award from the Wisconsin State Bar in 2019 for the ROSA Clinic, and a Honorable Mention for the Crime Victim Service Award in 2020. Additionally, Ryan is actively involved in various leadership roles, including serving as a Guardian ad Litem in Dane County and being a member of the Wisconsin State Bar's Leadership Development Committee. He is a graduate of the Wisconsin State Bar's G. Lane Ware Leadership Program and has taken on roles such as Chair of the J.D. Grants Committee and Special Investigator for the Office of Lawyer Regulation for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
