Dr. Peng Hu

Associate Professor

Biography

Peng Hu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Director of the Advanced Network and Embedded Systems Lab (AEL) at the University of Manitoba. He holds an appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor at the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo and is a member of the Waterloo Data AI Institute. Dr. Hu has extensive experience in research development, previously having worked as a Research Officer at the National Research Council Canada (NRC) and as an Embedded Software Engineer at CMC Microsystems. He currently serves on the IEEE Canada Board of Directors as Chair of the IEEE Winnipeg Section and is involved as Associate Editor for the IEEE Open Journal Communications Society. His research focuses on emerging challenges in advanced aerospace systems, including AI/ML-enabled networks, space sustainability, satellite systems, and mission-critical Internet of Things (IoT). Dr. Hu has received support from various funding agencies and has collaborated with leading academic and industry partners. Recently, he was selected as a Research Fellow by the Open Lunar Foundation and has received multiple research awards.
