Jane Mikkelson is an Assistant Professor in the Humanities at Yale University, specializing in literary and intellectual cultures of South Asia and the Near East. Her work primarily focuses on classical Persian, Urdu, and Arabic literature, with newer projects encompassing Russian and English literary studies. Mikkelson's research engages with the forms of thought, methods of inquiry, and the varieties of experiences that imaginative literature has made possible. Her recent publications cover topics such as planetary poetics, the Arabic concept of taste (dhawq) in seventeenth-century English thought, and the geopolitical turn in Persian literary criticism. Mikkelson is currently working on a book project that investigates poetry as a medium that shapes new inquiries in the disciplines of early modern Persianate studies. Her ongoing collaborative projects aim to bridge the studies of South Asian, Near Eastern, and European cultures through comparison.
