Alejandro M. Garro is an Adjunct Professor and Senior Research Scholar at Columbia Law School's Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law, where he has been a faculty member since 1981. He specializes in comparative law and international commercial law, including international sales, secured transactions, and international arbitration. He teaches courses on International Business Transactions and International Arbitration and has previously instructed on Comparative Law and Latin American legal systems. Garro has published extensively in the fields of international secured transactions and commercial law, co-authoring works such as “The Law of International Sales” with Professor Alberto Zuppi. His academic and research contributions include working at prominent institutions like the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law and the Max-Planck Institute, along with consultation for agencies like USAID and the World Bank. He has played a key role in drafting commercial arbitration laws in Bolivia and Peru and has been involved in developing the UNIDROIT Principles for International Commercial Contracts. Garro earned his J.S.D. from Columbia Law School, his LL.M. from Louisiana State University, and his J.D. from the National University of La Plata in Argentina and is admitted to practice in Buenos Aires, Madrid, and New York.
