Biography

Gabriel Moreno-Hagelsieb is a Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University, specializing in the areas of genomics, metagenomics, and gene regulation in prokaryotes. He completed his PhD in Biotechnology at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where he conducted research at the Center for Nitrogen Fixation and the Center for Genomic Sciences. With a background as a visiting scholar at USDA/ARS and Cornell University, he joined Laurier as an Associate Professor in 2004. His research focuses on computational approaches to understanding and predicting the evolution of genetic functional networks, utilizing comprehensive databases of genomic and metagenomic sequences. In his academic career, he has supervised numerous PhD and MSc candidates, and guided undergraduate theses and directed studies in his lab. His expertise spans various programming languages like PERL and Python, and he emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and engagement with current literature in the scientific community.
