Kemal Celik is an Assistant Professor at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and a Global Network Assistant Professor at New York University Abu Dhabi. He directs the Advanced Materials Building Efficiency Research Laboratory (AMBER Lab) at NYU Abu Dhabi. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in Structural Engineering, Mechanics & Materials, with minors in Geoengineering and Material Science & Engineering. Before joining NYU, Celik served as a Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Berkeley, where he was involved in the Singapore-Berkeley Building Efficiency Sustainability Tropics (SinBerBEST) program, focusing on international collaboration in sustainable building practices. His research specializes in construction materials and building energy efficiency, particularly in developing sustainable multi-functional structural materials. His work encompasses multi-scale interdisciplinary research geared towards characterizing and developing energy-efficient construction materials, including low carbon cements and alkali-activated cementitious materials, as well as optimizing building envelopes for improved energy performance. His significant achievements include several awards recognizing his contributions to civil engineering and materials performance.
