Biography

Jim Dai is the Leon C. Welch Professor in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell University. His research focuses on the fields of Applied Probability, particularly in areas such as fluid models, diffusion models, stochastic processes, and reinforcement learning. He has extensive work on resource allocations in processing networks that model semiconductor wafer fabrication lines, communications networks, data centers, and service systems. Additionally, he models optimization in customer contact centers, hospital inpatient operations, airline yield management, and ridesharing networks. Jim Dai has contributed significantly to the field through numerous publications and serves on various academic committees, including chairing the award committee for the ACM SIGMETRICS Achievement Award. His expertise is recognized globally, and he actively supervises doctoral students in the field.
