Edward C. Portillo, PharmD, is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy and serves as the Associate Dean of Advancement. His research interests focus on curriculum innovation and the advancement of pharmacy practice. Dr. Portillo is heavily involved in curriculum development, research initiatives, student leadership development, and mentorship, as well as pioneering innovative curriculum design. He has contributed to the development and measurement of innovative pharmacist services, emphasizing pharmacist prescribing within inter-professional teams to enhance the level of care provided to patients. Dr. Portillo graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy in 2014 and completed the PGY1/2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Residency Program at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital in 2016. He joined the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy in August 2016 and is actively engaged in teaching Integrated Pharmacotherapy courses and Professional Development lectures, as well as expanding the undergraduate Consumer Self-Care curriculum. His practice experience includes roles in inpatient care and ambulatory care, and he currently practices as a clinical ambulatory care specialist in the Madison VA Medication Management clinic, where he operates under an independent scope to prescribe medications, order lab values, and schedule patient follow-ups.
