Andrew D. Leipold is the Edwin M. Adams Professor Emeritus of Law at the University of Illinois College of Law. He graduated summa cum laude from Boston University and earned his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and served as editor-in-chief of the Virginia Law Review. After graduation, he clerked for Judge Abner Mikva of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and for Justice Lewis Powell, Jr., on the United States Supreme Court. Leipold practiced law at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Philadelphia before joining the faculty in 1992. He has been recognized as an Outstanding Faculty Member and received the Campus Award for Excellence in Graduate and Professional Teaching. His expertise lies in Criminal Law and Procedure, and he has contributed significantly to these fields through various publications and consulting roles, including his involvement with the Illinois Criminal Law Reform Commission. Leipold's recent works include analyses of criminal case procedures and wrongful convictions, and he has delivered lectures internationally, including in Brazil. His teaching encompasses Criminal Procedure and related subjects, impacting both students and the legal community with his extensive knowledge.
