Biography

John M. Sharp, Jr. is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. With a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois obtained in 1974, his extensive research encompasses hydrogeological processes, focusing on fractured rocks and hydrology within arid and semi-arid zones. His expertise extends to the impacts of urbanization on groundwater systems and the study of aquifers and carbonate rocks. Sharp's work includes participation in numerous seminal committees, and he has contributed as an editor and reviewer for various scientific journals. He has received multiple awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District. Throughout his career, he has engaged in both research and teaching, fostering a deep understanding of water resources management and hydrogeology.
