Biography

Michelle Brané is a Non-resident Immigration Law Policy Fellow at Cornell Law School. She has worked in the Ombudsman Office at the Department of Homeland Security, where she led a significant team managing a multimillion-dollar budget and conducting oversight of immigration detention practices. Previously, she served as the Executive Director of the Family Reunification Task Force, successfully executing a Presidential Executive Order aimed at reuniting families separated under previous administrations. Prior to her roles at the Department of Homeland Security, Michelle was the Senior Director of Migrant Rights and Justice at the Women’s Refugee Commission, where she managed substantial budgets and led advocacy efforts at national and international levels. She has extensive experience that includes direct engagement with government agencies and significant contributions to policy reform and public engagement initiatives. Michelle is recognized as a thought leader in the field and has been featured in major media outlets. She has received multiple awards for her outstanding contributions to immigration law and human rights advocacy.
