Jailson Brito Querido obtained a B.S. in Biochemistry and an M.Sc. in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Lisbon, Portugal. He then completed his Ph.D. in Cellular Molecular Biology at the University of Strasbourg, France. In 2018, he began a postdoctoral fellowship at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in the United Kingdom, under the guidance of Dr. Venki Ramakrishnan. Currently, he holds a position as a Research Assistant Professor at the Life Sciences Institute and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan Medical School. He is also a member of the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center and has been recognized as an RNA Faculty Scholar at the Center for RNA Biomedicine. His research focuses on the regulation of mRNA translation, particularly at the initiation stage, utilizing techniques such as cryo-electron microscopy alongside biochemical and genetic approaches to explore the roles of DEAD-box RNA helicases in health and disease.
