Biography

Patrick Kain is an Associate Professor in the Philosophy department at Purdue University, where he has been a faculty member since 2000. He received his PhD from the University of Notre Dame. Kain’s research primarily focuses on ethics, Kant, and early modern philosophy, exploring themes such as moral obligation, human dignity, and the foundations of ethics, particularly through the lens of Immanuel Kant’s work. He has been recognized for his contributions to the field, receiving the 2021 Senior Scholar Prize from the North American Kant Society. Kain has authored numerous articles and chapters related to Kant and has co-edited significant works including 'Essays on Kant’s Anthropology' and 'Challenges to Moral Religious Belief.' He is also involved in various academic initiatives, advocating for academic freedom and shared governance on college campuses. Currently, he is working on a book that aims to develop Kant's value-centric moral philosophy.
