Yimin Zhu is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Penn State Altoona University, having earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Stony Brook University. His doctoral work focused primarily on synthetic organic chemistry. Following his doctorate, he completed postdoctoral training in carbohydrate chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As an Assistant Scientist at the Department of Energy's Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center at UW-Madison, he researched lignin, which is a major barrier to the effective utilization of cellulosic biomass for liquid fuels. His primary area of research lies at the interface of organic chemistry and biochemistry, and he plans to continue his work in bioenergy, focusing on the chemistry and biochemistry of lignin and carbohydrates.
