Biography

Gary S. Gildin joined the faculty of Dickinson Law in 1979 after graduating from Stanford Law School. He spent years as a civil litigator with Sonnenschein Carlin Nath & Rosenthal, now Dentons, in Chicago, Illinois. Gildin served as the Dean of the Law School from 2013 to 2019. Throughout his career at the Law School, Professor Gildin completed sabbaticals and was awarded a Fulbright Grant to serve as a visiting chair in international humanitarian law at the University of Ottawa. He also worked as an assistant public defender in the Public Defender's Office for Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and served as a law clerk for Hon. Sylvia H. Rambo in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. His teaching areas include Trial Advocacy, Constitutional Law, Evidence, and Legal Methods, among others. He consistently engages in pro bono litigation on behalf of those alleging infringement of constitutional rights and has argued notable cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Gildin has authored over 40 works, including books and articles, and has received several awards for his teaching excellence. He is also active in legal education programs and has designed and delivered advocacy training programs for practitioners.
