Biography

The Cellular & Molecular Biology (CMB) Graduate Program at the University of Michigan Medical School was founded in 1971 and is recognized for its interdisciplinary focus within biomedical sciences. The program integrates approximately 200 faculty members from diverse disciplines across the University of Michigan, including the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, College of Engineering, and College of Dentistry. PhD students in the CMB Program are immersed in a collaborative research environment supported by a long-standing NIH training grant. Within their first year, students engage in the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) and participate in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), which allows them to rotate through various labs and complete foundational coursework before selecting a CMB laboratory to join. The CMB program emphasizes leadership in scientific research and innovation, preparing graduates for impactful careers in academia, industry, and beyond.
