Dr. David Powers

Professor

Biography

David Powers is a Professor and Associate Head of Undergraduate Studies at Texas A&M University in the College of Arts and Sciences. His research focus is on meeting the unmet chemical challenges through the development of new catalytic chemistry that impacts chemical synthesis and energy storage. His work includes projects that span various areas of chemistry, including organic, organometallic, and inorganic chemistries. Powers utilizes modern synthetic chemistry and advanced characterization techniques, supported by synchrotron X-ray sources, to explore research interests such as shape-selective catalysis and solar energy storage via organic solar-thermal flow batteries. He is also engaged in studying aerobic oxidation chemistry and C–H functionalization reactions. Additionally, he seeks motivated students who are interested in gaining expertise in synthetic chemistry and reaction mechanism elucidation.
