Dr. Thieo Hogen Esch

Professor

Biography

Thieo Hogen Esch is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Southern California. He earned his Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands in 1967, with earlier degrees in Polymer Chemistry and Chemistry from the same institution. His research focuses on the synthesis, properties, and applications of polymers, particularly in the area of living anionic radical polymerization and the development of light-emitting macrocyclic polymers. Hogen Esch has authored numerous articles in major chemistry publications and has been involved in studies relating to self-assembly and the functionalization of polymers with perfluorocarbon groups. He employs innovative methodologies to achieve well-defined polymer structures that exhibit desirable properties for various applications, including energy transfer and biosensing technologies. His contributions to the field have earned him recognition among peers, and he continues to be a prominent figure in the study of sophisticated polymer systems.
