Biography

Michael Huyghue is a prominent figure in the professional sports industry with a career spanning over 30 years. He is widely regarded as a pioneer in the field, blazing a trail for African Americans in sports management. Huyghue served as Commissioner of the United Football League (UFL), which featured primarily young National Football League (NFL) players, and raised hundreds of millions of dollars in seed money for the league's operation. The UFL was notable for its four nationally televised seasons, providing opportunities for 150 players and dozens of coaches to find full-time positions in the NFL. In 2001, he launched Axcess Sports & Entertainment, a highly successful sports agency representing professional and Olympic athletes and entertainers, including celebrities like Magic Johnson and Oscar De La Hoya. Huyghue was also the youngest black general manager in professional football with the Birmingham Fire in the NFL’s World League, where he held significant operational roles. He began his career as a legal assistant for the NFL Players Association, later taking on various senior roles, including Labor Relations Counsel, where he organized efforts for player work stoppages and conducted numerous arbitration hearings for NFL member clubs.
