Biography

Professor Vikram D. Amar has established a distinguished career in law education, serving as the dean of the College of Law at the University of Illinois since 2015. Prior to this role, he was a professor at the University of California, Davis School of Law, where he held various positions including Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Amar is recognized as an eminent authority on constitutional law, federal courts, and civil procedure, having authored or co-authored numerous books and over 60 articles in leading law reviews. His collaborative works include contributions to the upcoming edition of the six-volume Treatise on Constitutional Law and the influential Wright & Miller Federal Practice Procedure Treatise. In addition to his written contributions, Amar is an active commentator on legal matters, regular columnist for Justia.com, and a frequent guest on radio and television programs. He has a strong commitment to public and professional engagement, being an elected member of the American Law Institute and serving as a consultant to several significant legal bodies.
