Erica Frantz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2008. Prior to her current position, she served as an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Bridgewater State University from 2011 to 2015, and from 2008 to 2011, she worked as an analyst at the Institute for Physical Sciences. Her research and teaching interests encompass authoritarian politics, democratization, conflict, and development. She has a particular interest in the security policy implications of autocratic rule, contributing to the understanding of how authoritarian regimes affect political stability and societal development.
