Dr. Marla Shauer

Biography

Marla Shauer is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at the University of California, Davis. With 24 years of experience as a certified nurse midwife, she provides both inpatient and outpatient care, specializing in reproductive health, gynecologic services, and postpartum care. Her teaching integrates her midwifery experience, emphasizing a collaborative and trauma-informed approach to clinical simulation and education. Prior to joining UC Davis, Shauer held positions across various healthcare organizations in California, Virginia, Washington D.C., and New York, where she focused on midwifery and nursing care. In addition to her clinical work, she has contributed to perinatal HIV research as a study coordinator at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis, with a focus on feminist theory and research. Her educational background includes a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from George Mason University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from SUNY Empire State, Jerusalem.
