Jin Liu is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Chinese Program at the School of Modern Languages, Georgia Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D. in East Asian Literature and Culture from Cornell University. His interdisciplinary research investigates contemporary Chinese popular culture through the lenses of language, sound, and music. Liu is the author of 'Signifying Local: Media Productions Rendered Local Languages in Mainland China in the New Millennium,' published by Brill in 2013. He has co-edited the book 'Chinese Globalization: Emerging Trends in Language Use in China' (World Scientific, 2012) and has published extensively on topics such as Chinese independent films, eco-cinema, rap music, and Internet culture in various peer-reviewed journals. He has previous teaching experience at significant institutions including Cornell University and Princeton University. His research interests encompass applied linguistics and socio-cultural linguistics, with particular attention to language and culture interactions. Liu has received multiple awards for teaching excellence and continues to play a pivotal role in language education and cultural studies at Georgia Tech.
