Professor Myriam Gilles joined the faculty of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law in July 2025 as the Catharine Waugh McCulloch Professor of Law. She has been a prominent member of the faculty at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law since 1999, where she held the Paul R. Verkuil Research Chair in Public Law. Professor Gilles is known for her work in civil procedure, complex litigation, and torts, and is recognized as the fifth most-cited civil procedure scholar in the country. Her scholarship has been published in leading law reviews and she has testified before Congress as an expert in forced arbitration and consumer protection. She has received several honors, including the Pound Civil Justice Institute’s Award for Article in 2018 and the Berkeley Civil Justice Research Initiative’s Publication Prize in 2025. Her professional journey includes prior appointments such as LAPA Fellow at Princeton University and visiting professor at the University of Virginia School of Law, as well as experience as a litigation associate at Kirkland & Ellis.
