Dr. McKnight is a board-certified family medicine physician from Chester, a rural town in East Texas. He is currently a Clinical Associate Professor and Associate Department Head for Undergraduate Medical Education & Research at Texas A&M University Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine. Dr. McKnight became a member of the Texas Medical Association (TMA) Leadership College Class in 2019 and serves as a voting member of the TMA Committee on Rural Medicine. He completed his medical residency with special training in primary care endoscopy, with a focus on colorectal cancer screening. He is the director of a grant aimed at improving access to colorectal cancer screening in rural underserved communities. His teaching revolves around undergraduate and graduate medical education, especially in primary care medicine, hospital medicine, primary care endoscopy, and healthcare policy advocacy. Dr. McKnight co-authored a book section on lower gastrointestinal conditions and writes occasional blog posts on various medical topics related to patient education. He earned his MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston Medical School (now McGovern Medical School) and a master's degree in nutrition from Texas A&M University. He is married to a local veterinarian and enjoys spending time with family on their cattle ranch.
