Allen Feldman is a cultural anthropologist and a professor at NYU Steinhardt University, specializing in the ethnography of violence and the body's senses. He is the author of significant works such as 'Archives Insensible: War, Photopolitics and Dead Memory' (University of Chicago, 2015) and 'Formations of Violence: Narrative, Body and Political Terror in Northern Ireland' (1991). Feldman's research focuses on the connections between the politicization of the gaze and the body senses in conflict zones, particularly in Northern Ireland and South Africa in the context of the post-9/11 global war on terror. His teaching spans various interests including visual culture, political aesthetics, and practice-led media research. His courses, including 'War Media', explore the intersections between contemporary warfare and media representation, examining how political violence becomes a communicative act through technology. Achieving recognition from scholars such as Avital Ronell and Talal Asad, his work is pivotal for understanding the transformative nature of violence and justice in contemporary society.
