Biography

Emilie Aguirre is an Associate Professor at Duke University School of Law specializing in business law, with a particular emphasis on how companies can effectively pursue both social purposes and profit. She joined the Duke Law faculty in June 2021 and has conducted empirical research on 14 companies, including a tech startup and a multinational corporation, examining their practices and outcomes. Professor Aguirre's scholarly work has been published in esteemed journals such as the U.C. Davis Law Review, UCLA Law Review, Journal of Food Law & Policy, and the British Medical Journal, showcasing her contributions to the fields of business and sustainability. Previously, she was an Earl B. Dickerson Fellow at the University of Chicago School of Law, focusing on the intersections of business law, management, and health food systems. Aguirre has also served as an Academic Fellow at the Resnick Center for Food Law and Policy at UCLA School of Law and as a Fulbright scholar and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR) at the University of Cambridge. She holds a JD from Harvard Law School, where she was an editor for the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review and the Harvard International Law Journal, along with an LLM from the University of Cambridge and an AB degree, summa cum laude, from Princeton University.
