Fabian Winkler holds degrees from Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG)/ZKM Karlsruhe, Germany, and the Department of Design and Media Arts at UCLA, Los Angeles, USA. He has been a significant figure in the field of Electronic Time-Based Art since joining Purdue University, where he initiated and developed this area in 2006. Winkler has previously served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon’s School of Art from 2003 to 2006. His solo and collaborative works have been exhibited internationally, appearing in prestigious venues such as the Center of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy, the China Science & Technology Museum in Beijing, and at various art festivals including Ars Electronica in Linz, Austria, and the Spark Festival in Minneapolis. Furthermore, Winkler, in partnership with Dr. Shannon C. McMullen, was awarded a National Science Foundation CreativeIT grant, focusing on interdisciplinary projects that merge art with scientific exploration, particularly examining themes around climate change.
