Judge James C. Dever III is a Senior Lecturing Fellow at Duke University School of Law. He graduated with high honors from the University of Notre Dame with a B.B.A. in 1984, where he was distinguished as a Military Graduate and elected to Beta Gamma Sigma. He later received a J.D. with high honors from Duke University School of Law in 1987, served as editor-in-chief of the Duke Law Journal, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. After law school, Judge Dever clerked for Judge J. Clifford Wallace on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and was selected to enter active duty as part of the Air Force General Counsel's Honors Program at the Pentagon, providing legal advice and conducting litigation for the Secretary of the Air Force. He has served in various roles including in private practice with Maupin Taylor & Ellis, P.A., and has been involved in academia since 1997. Judge Dever has also served in notable advisory positions regarding the Criminal Rules for the federal judiciary. He has taught at Campbell University's Law School and has received recognition for his contributions to employment law and criminal procedure.
