Biography

A. Juorio is an Emeritus Professor in Psychiatry at the University of Saskatchewan. He graduated in Pharmacy with a degree in Clinical Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. His early career involved teaching and research in the Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry in Buenos Aires, followed by a position in the Pharmacology Unit at The Babraham Institute in Cambridge, UK, and the Department of Pharmacology at University College London, UK. Over eight years of post-graduate research in the UK provided him with a solid background in neuropharmacology. He then accepted a tenured position at the Psychiatry Research Unit in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Saskatchewan. Throughout his research career, he has published more than 120 papers in the fields of neuropharmacology and neurobiology in refereed scientific journals and presented his work at numerous international meetings. After retiring in 1999, he was invited to join the Pharmacology Section at the National Institutes of Mental Health in Bethesda, MD, USA, where he continued to lead the publication of multiple papers before returning to Canada in 2002 to supervise postdoctoral fellows at the Department of Psychiatry until his final retirement in 2006.
