Biography

Toine Egberts obtained his PharmD in 1990 from the University of Groningen, Netherlands. After training as a clinical pharmacist for four years in hospitals in Tilburg and Delft, he started a PhD project in the Department of Pharmacoepidemiology & Clinical Pharmacology at Utrecht University in collaboration with the Netherlands Pharmacovigilance Foundation 'Lareb'. His thesis, completed in 1997, was focused on 'Pharmacoepidemiologic Approaches to Evaluate Antidepressant Drugs'. In 2001, he was appointed as a professor in clinical pharmacoepidemiology, later becoming a professor in clinical pharmacy at the medical faculty of Utrecht University in 2006. Egberts served as the chief pharmacist in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy of the University Medical Center Utrecht from 2006 to 2017 and has been a director of doctor education at the Graduate School of Life Sciences since November 2018. He is deeply involved in education, particularly in training hospital pharmacists, and has authored or co-authored around 500 international peer-reviewed scientific publications. His research interests include clinical pharmacology and innovations in the prescribing, monitoring, and evaluation of medicines, with a focus on sustainability in pharmacy. He is married with three children and enjoys trail running, boot camp, climbing mountains, and music in his spare time.
