Dr. A J Keller

Biography

A.J. Keller is a dedicated lecturer at the Northwestern Bienen School of Music with extensive experience as an active performer, conductor, and educator in the Chicagoland area. Having earned both a Master of Music and a Doctor of Music degrees from Northwestern University, he has served in significant roles such as the music director for Glencoe Union Church and the artistic director for Stare Sun, a Chicago-based professional chamber choir specializing in contemporary music. Keller's career is distinguished by his contributions as a chorus master for notable performances including the Chicago premiere of Jake Heggie's 'Moby-Dick' and the world premiere of David Lang's 'prisoner' with the New York Philharmonic. His guest conductorships span both local and international platforms, including collaborations with Danish contemporary-music ensemble Ensemble Edge. His teaching career includes positions at Beloit College and North Park University. Keller's primary research interests are centered around contemporary choral music, postminimalism, and the Danish New Simplicity style, particularly focusing on the vocal works of composer Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen.
