A.G. Straatman is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at Western University. He earned his B.E.Sc. and M.E.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Western Ontario in 1991 and 1992, respectively, and completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 1995, specializing in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Reynolds-Stress Turbulence Modelling. Dr. Straatman began his academic career at Western University in 1997 after working in the software industry for Advanced Scientific Computing. He advanced to the rank of full professor by 2010. His teaching excellence has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in University Teaching in 2007. Dr. Straatman has held leadership roles, including serving as president of the CFD Society of Canada from 2012 to 2014, and has been a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering since 2016. His research focuses on enhancing convective heat and mass transfer using porous metals, and studying energy transport phenomena in the Ranque-Hilsch vortex tube.
