Biography

Aali R. Alizadeh is an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ottawa, with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering obtained in 2009. He is also the co-founder and CEO of Giatec Scientific Inc., a company specializing in developing smart concrete testing technologies. With over 15 years of academic and industrial experience, Dr. Alizadeh has focused on research and development in novel cementitious materials and non-destructive testing techniques for concrete. His doctoral research explored nanostructure engineering properties of modified calcium silicate hydrate systems, aiming to enhance the understanding of hydrated Portland cement systems. This work has led to the publication of more than 70 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, as well as several patents. He has received several prestigious awards, including the OCRI Student Researcher of the Year Award and the Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal. Besides his entrepreneurial efforts, Dr. Alizadeh has contributed to various committees, including CSA A23.1/A23.2 and ACI 236/241. His research interests include nanostructure engineering properties, application of nanomaterials in sustainable concrete construction, durability of cement-based materials in aggressive environments, and non-destructive techniques for performance-based quality control of concrete structures.
