Biography

Aarnout Brombacher is a Full Professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), specializing in Design Theory and Information Flow Analysis. His research interests encompass data analysis in complex systems and the interaction of users and user communities, investigating how data analytics can enhance customer-perceived design quality models. Early in his career, he focused on quality and reliability management in the Departments of Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering at TU/e. His interests have evolved towards sports and human health, where he utilizes the growing amounts of personal activity data to create opportunities for individuals to lead active lives. He is a member of the National Top Team, an advisory body to the Dutch government concerning Sports Vitality, representing 14 Dutch universities. Brombacher is dedicated to translating human activity data into practical applications that motivate people to stay active. He holds a BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering Science from the Twente University of Technology. Brombacher has been a Full Professor at TU/e since 1993, served as Dean of the Industrial Design department from 2010 to 2018, and was Vice-Rector for International Relations from 2012 to 2016. He has published over 100 journal articles and has acted as chief editor for the journal Quality Reliability Engineering International.
