Biography

Aaron Boley is a Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of British Columbia. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Physics & Astronomy from the University of Mount Union in 2002, a Master's degree in Astronomy from Indiana University in 2004, and a Doctoral degree in Astrophysics from the same institution in 2007. He has a rich postdoctoral experience, including tenures at the University of Florida as a Sagan Postdoctoral Fellow and at the University of Zurich. Boley's research focuses on Astronomy and Astrophysics, particularly in the fields of planetary astronomy, space sustainability, and space policy. His work explores the processes of planet formation and the evolution of planetary systems, emphasizing the observational consequences of these processes. He is also a co-founder and co-director of the Outer Space Institute, which addresses major challenges in space through a transdisciplinary approach. Boley has been recognized for his contributions to research and education, receiving the 2023 Donner Prize for his work in Canada as a Research Chair in Planetary Astronomy, and the 2018 Killam Teaching Award.
