Biography

Aaron Brown is an archaeologist specializing in Roman Italic material culture with particular interests in ancient foodways, including the practices and beliefs surrounding the production and consumption of food and drink. His research seeks to recover the daily realities of ancient persons’ lives and understand the large-scale social structures that changed over time. He is currently working on a book project focused on the social material history of cooking in the Roman Empire. Additionally, he serves as the assistant director of the Pompeii Artifact Life History Project and is a ceramic specialist for the Pompeii I.14 project. Brown has worked at various archaeological sites in Italy, including Rofalco, Cetamura del Chianti, Cerveteri, Morgantina, and Oplontis.
