Biography

Aaron Devor holds the inaugural position of Chair of Transgender Studies at the University of Victoria. He is the founder and academic director of the world’s largest Transgender Archives and has hosted the international, interdisciplinary Moving Trans History Forward conferences. Devor is an author of numerous well-cited scholarly articles and editor of five books, two of which are considered classics in the field of transgender studies. He has delivered over 35 keynote and plenary addresses worldwide and has received multiple awards for his work in the transgender community, including the Virginia Prince Pioneer Award and the Canadian Association of University Teachers Equity Award. Additionally, he has won awards from the University of Victoria for outstanding community outreach and advocacy for equity and diversity. Devor has provided sought-after media commentary and has appeared in professionally produced videos. He was elected a senior member of the International Academy of Sex Research and chosen as a Fellow of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. As a historian, he has played a significant role in the development of the WPATH Standards of Care since 1999, overseeing their translation into multiple languages. Devor also served as dean of Graduate Studies from 2002 to 2012 and is recognized as a 3M national-award-winning teacher.
