Dr. Aaron Laviana

Biography

Aaron Laviana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at Dell Medical School, specializing in urologic oncology. His clinical focus includes bladder cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, penile cancer, complex kidney surgery, and robotic surgery. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology and Economics from the University of Notre Dame and completed his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine, graduating at the top of his class. Following his medical education, he completed a urology residency at UCLA, receiving the resident teaching award for excellence in academic urology. Laviana then pursued a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He also holds an MBA from Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management, through which he investigates health economics and systems engineering to improve operational aspects of medicine. His role at Dell Medical School includes orchestrating the initiation and expansion of various cancer-related treatment protocols while integrating evidence-based medicine into clinical pathways. Laviana has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and several textbook chapters, with ongoing research aimed at identifying inefficiencies and bottlenecks in healthcare to enhance value. He is a dedicated member of the American Urological Association and the Society of Urologic Oncology, as well as a committed educator for future generations of academic leaders.
