Dr. Aaron Perzanowski

Biography

Aaron Perzanowski is the inaugural Thomas W. Lacchia Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School. He teaches and writes at the intersection of intellectual property and personal property law. His work explores the notion of ownership in the digital economy. Perzanowski’s books include 'End Ownership,' co-authored with Jason Schultz (MIT Press, 2016), and 'Right Repair' (Cambridge University Press, 2022). His current book project addresses the shifting conceptions of ownership that threaten to undermine the core functions of libraries. He has also contributed to understanding how informal governance and social norms influence creative production in various contexts, including the tattoo industry and clowning community. His notable work, 'Creativity Law' (NYU Press, 2017), forms part of a growing body of scholarship that investigates the interplay between intellectual property and social norms. Before joining the Michigan faculty, Perzanowski taught at Case Western Reserve University and Wayne State University. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Notre Dame and served as a Microsoft Research Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley.
