Biography

Dr. Aaron Price began investigating smart materials in 2004 through a project aimed at developing shape memory alloy based artificial muscle actuators. After completing his M.A.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 2006, focusing on smart material enabled prosthetics and robotics, he completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2012, where he innovated nanoscale electroactive polymer actuator technologies for adaptive optics systems. From 2011 to 2014, Dr. Price worked at ABB’s Corporate Research Center in Germany, specializing in electroactive polymers, magnetic shape memory alloys, and piezo-transducers for industrial applications. He joined the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at the University of Western Ontario in January 2015, where he leads the Organic Mechatronics & Smart Materials Laboratory and participates in various research initiatives affiliated with Western’s Biomedical Engineering program and Bone & Joint Institute, focusing on advancements in musculoskeletal health.
