Biography

Aaron Young is an Associate Professor at the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology and a member of the Institute for Robotics & Intelligent Machines. He directs the Intelligent Prosthetic & Exoskeleton Controls (EPIC) Lab, specializing in lower limb robotic augmentation. His research emphasizes optimizing control systems for wearable robotic devices that enhance human locomotion biomechanics for clinical populations. Dr. Young aims to create clinically viable control systems for wearable robotic lower limb assistive devices. With a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan, he worked on enhancing human performance with lower limb exoskeletons. His dissertation at Northwestern University focused on machine learning strategies for intent recognition in powered lower limb prostheses. His ongoing research includes Lower Limb Prostheses, Exoskeletons, Human Augmentation, Wearable Robotics, and Assistive Devices, seeking to improve mobility for individuals with walking disabilities, including limb loss and stroke. He is also exploring robotic technologies to enhance industrial worker safety and efficacy.
