Biography

Aart J. Verhoef studied Physics and Astronomy at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, earning a Ph.D. degree in Experimental Physics from Ludwig Maximilians Universität Munich under the supervision of Professor Ferenc Krausz. His thesis research focused on using absolute phase few-cycle attosecond pulses to control atomic-scale motion of electrons. The attosecond physics experiments he conducted required the development of advanced laser sources, where Dr. Verhoef became an expert in ultrafast laser design. His expertise significantly contributed to breakthroughs in various fields, including neuro-imaging and multiphoton imaging. Since joining Texas A&M University in 2019, Dr. Verhoef has been combining advanced optical technologies with applications in biology and agriculture, utilizing advanced ultrafast fiber lasers that he helped develop in Vienna. He collaborates closely with a research team comprising Xinghua Liu and Ajithamithra Dharmasiri while fostering institutional partnerships with the Institute of Quantum Science & Engineering.
