Biography

Aarti Gupta is a Professor of Global Environmental Governance at Wageningen University, where she leads the Environmental Policy Group. Her research primarily focuses on global environmental and climate governance, emphasizing challenges of transparency and accountability, as well as anticipatory governance and novel technologies, including biotechnology and climate engineering. Aarti has published extensively in her fields, including the edited volume 'Transparency in Global Environmental Governance: Critical Perspectives' published by MIT Press in 2014. As a coordinator of the 'Governing Climate Futures' research theme, she serves as the principal investigator of the 'Transformative Potential of Climate Transparency (TRANSGOV)' project funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). Additionally, Aarti co-leads the international REIMAGINE consortium project aimed at anticipatory climate governance, particularly in vulnerable regions of the Global South. She is also a founding member of the interdisciplinary REDD@WUR network and holds significant roles in various scientific committees, including the Earth System Governance research alliance and the EU COST Action on Transformations in Global Environmental Governance. Aarti has an extensive academic background with a PhD from Yale University and has previously worked with Columbia University, Harvard University, and various international organizations such as UNDP and Oxfam-Novib.
