Dr. Aarti Venkat

Biography

Aarti Venkat has over fourteen years of computational experience in genomics and bioinformatics, with a wide range of applications in evolutionary genetics and oncology. She obtained her Ph.D. in Human Genetics from the University of Chicago in 2018. Following her doctorate, she worked at Tempus Labs, a precision oncology company in Chicago, where she served as the Associate Director of Bioinformatics. At Tempus, she managed a team of bioinformatics scientists, focusing on the development of clinical bioinformatics pipelines and algorithms for copy number detection, tumor purity, and ploidy estimation. Venkat has also worked on projects involving the identification of exon-level deletion/duplication events, as well as germline variants using Deep Learning techniques. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago and serves as the Director of the Clinical Informatics Center, where she continues her research in oncology, developing machine learning methods to improve cancer diagnosis and prognosis, and building data meshes for federated search learning. She is also a Co-Principal Investigator for the Biomedical Research Hub, leading initiatives in data mesh biomedical research.
